One way of watching documentary films is to realize that most filmmakers have a specific stance or position on
an arguable issue. In the documentary film, What the Health? the filmmaker argues for a plant-based diet. He
makes numerous claims supported by evidence to prove this point of view is valid. For this essay, you will first
watch the film What the Health? It is currently streaming on Netflix and YouTube (the YouTube version has
subtitles, sorry!). Then, you will reconstruct the filmmaker's argument in essay form; this will entail writing a
brief summary of the film—this will be your introduction. Next, you will list the filmmaker's claims (or main
points) and use of supporting evidence in the form of direct passages or quotes taken from the film; these will
be your body paragraphs. Finally, you will reveal your stance on the issue as well as the reasons why in the
concluding paragraph (limited use of first person, or “I” is permitted).
Successful papers will do the following:
Include a summary of the issue under debate as well as the filmmaker's stance.
Clearly point out one filmmaker's claims and use of evidence in the form of direct quotes
