Movie review

Description

Movie Review/Paper
Choose a movie, television show (at least 5 episodes) or a book. Write a short paper on the item of your choice, which you should structure as follows.

Title Page
Include the title of your paper, which should not be simply the name of the movie. The title page should also include your name, course name, section number, and date. The title page does not count toward the required 3-4 pages.

Body of Paper (3-4 pages)
The body of your paper should be 3-4 pages (which means at least 3 full pages, not two pages and one sentence on the next page) and include:

 A very brief overview of the movie, show, or book
Include enough information from the movie to convince me that you actually watched the movie. However, do not go overboard. Stick to the main points of the movie and avoid minor details. No more than about 1/3 of the paper should be devoted to summarizing the events of the movie.

 How this movie is related to women and gender studies theme(s) you have studied in class.
Many of your choices will have obvious connections to WGS or you would not have chosen them. However, it is up to you to convince me of these connections. Some good choices for viewing and analyzing would be movies, books, and shows that deal with social themes. Your job is to take something that we have learned about (social construction of gender; intersectionality; inequality; body image; masculinity; homophobia, etc.) and discuss how these issues are being portrayed in the media. You can take any of the topics discussed in class and use your movie, show, or book to provide examples of how that "theory" or "concept" is being portrayed and/or reinforced in your chosen genre. Use specific terminology and DEFINE it within your paper and use references from the movie to back it up. Make sure to use TERMS that you have learned in the class to support your paper.

You should be able to write this paper citing only the textbook and your film/book. You should not, in most cases, have to conduct any additional research. However, if you do conduct other research, I expect you to cite it appropriately. All citations should be in either APA or MLA format. Please consult the EKU writing lab (NOEL Studio) or the library if you have additional questions about formatting. At a minimum, I expect everyone to cite the media of your choice and the Shaw text.
