Paper instructions:
Using the concepts and discussions from this course you will do a deep dive into a cinema text. This is what we have been doing for each film we watched throughout the semester. You will describe, using detailed examples from your selected film, the main messages and themes in the film. Further, you will answer the question, how do the creators of the film use the techniques of narrative, performance, and aesthetics to deliver these messages?
Next, you will select one scene in the movie (around 5-7 minutes) that you think best represents these messages and themes and you will describe them in detail. Here, again, you will focus on the way in which the film uses narrative, performance, and aesthetics to create their desired message. What are the filmmakers trying to say and how do they try to say it?
Throughout your analysis you should also attempt to draw from at least one of the films we watched this semester for comparison. That is, what messages, and the techniques used to deliver them, are similar to another film we watched this semester? Explain in detail how there are similar film techniques, themes, or messages.
Lastly, conclude by restating the major themes of the film and connecting them to the overarching argument of the film. State whether or not this film provided you with a new insight about our current society. How? Why?
