Movements in various sports
Movements in various sports
Order Description
Name three different movements that occur in various sports. Characterize each movement in as much detail as possible, including the plane(s) of action, actions of specific joints, and kinetic chain of events of each movement.
Example: Pitching a baseball (this movement cannot be used in your submission)
This movement occurs in both the sagittal and transverse planes as the motion is both forward and rotational. The pitcher typically begins by picking up the front foot while rotating the upper body away from the plate. As the pitcher steps forward with the raised foot, he or she pushes off of the back leg into the front leg as the torso rotates back towards the plate. The shoulder internally rotates as the elbow and wrist extend to release the ball. The ball is propelled by extension of the hips in the stepping forward phase, the rotation of the torso, and finally the internal rotation and extension of the elbow and wrist.
