1. Reflection Paper (Week 1) – You will start the course by developing a reflection paper. The purpose of the reflection paper is to identify your career objectives, summarize how the MSIS program has helped you achieve those objectives and how the knowledge acquired relates to the targeted workplace, and set the framework for developing a resume and cover letter as well as selecting five required assignments to be included in the development of your portfolio. Further, the reflection paper will represent a value-adding tool to your instructor in assessing your communication skills, critical-thinking skills, and specialization expertise.

Because of the strategic importance of the reflection paper to the construction and evaluation of the portfolio capstone, you need to prepare a 5- page reflection paper, which must:

1. Effectively specify your targeted MIS job market, specialization domains, and job functions.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the required personal attributes, as well as nontechnical and technical skills required to be competitive in the targeted job market.
3. Explain how the MSIS program prepared you to tackle the targeted job market and specialization domain.
4. Select five high-stake assignments for inclusion in the portfolio and provided the rationale for their relevance in demonstrating required skills for the targeted job market. (Additional criteria in selecting the five assignments will be provided in Week 2.)
5. Demonstrate insight into the evolution of the job market and how to remain competitive.
6. Conduct a gap analysis of targeted job market skills versus combined skills acquired through the MSIS program. For any perceived gaps, indicate how existing courses could be expanded, or new courses created, to address those gaps. (Note: This element will not be part of your published portfolio and may be performed through the duration of the course.)
