Mexican American History

Question: Chapters 11 and 12 of Crucible of Struggle describe Mexican Americans’ progress in some areas and set-backs in others during the 1970s, 80s and 90s. In some cases, Mexican Americans became more vocal and involved as they became more integrated into mainstream institutions.  Describe the general socio-economic conditions of the Mexican American community in the late 20th century and the impact the growing Mexican American population had on American society as described by Vargas.  Analyze the main issues that affected the Mexican American community in the late 20th Century and how they responded. Give three examples of the issues Mexican Americans were most vocal about and why the issues were of importance to this community.  Discuss three areas in which Mexican Americans made significant gains and two areas they lost ground in terms of social acceptance and equality.
