Memory Examiation

Description

In class today(in case you were unable to attend), we did an exercise where we all walked around the school, then wrote down our memories of what we perceived. A comparison showed these memories to all be different, sometimes substantially so.

So your assignment for essay 1 (3-6 pages) is to examine what this means. You can use a page to a page and a half to recount your experience of walking around the school, but you should have at least twice as much analysis of this. So if you use 1 1/2 pages for retelling, you should have 4 1/2 total.

What does the exercise and discussion that followed suggest to you about memory? Is memory real? Is your memory more real than another's memory? How much of your narrative of this memory is created as opposed to being accurately remembered? What does your perspective on memory suggest about any other perceptions you might have? For additional ideas, I suggest watching the Matrix, Memento, or Waking Life.
