medium of communication
medium of communication
For this discussion board, you will select a medium of communication (e.g., speech, press release, commerical, policy brief, news brief, news conference, State of the
Union address, State of the State address, messages from university presidents, etc.) that pertains to a higher education policy issue and presented by a policymaker.
To complete this assignment, do the following:
1. Read/listen to your selected policy issue's communication.( Cloud Computing for E-Learning with More Emphasis on Security Issues)
2.) Determine which of the goals listed in the Stone book (i.e., security, liberty, equity, welfare, efficiency) is at play in your selected form of communication. In
other words, what goals or values is the author/speaker/presenter trying to appeal to in order to sway people's minds/attention to the policy issue and the proposed
solutions/alternatives.
3.) In an essay of approximately 350 words (following proper grammar and APA citations), describe how the author/speaker/presenter used a minimum of two of the goals
listed in the Stone book, one of which can be the chapter you read for last night's class. This essay should move beyond simple description (e.g., "The speaker
mentioned violence, which is related to Stone's goal of security.") and instead strive for a deeper analysis of how that goal can impact the audience's views or why
the speaker might invoke this goal in his/her writing/speaking. Additionally, you should provide a clear and concise definition of the goals you are discussing. As a
note, 350 words is not a lot of words - try to be detailed and concise (a key policy skill!)
4.) Post your essay and an electronic link or an uploaded document to this discussion board thread by 11:59pm on 02/12/15. If you select a lengthy speech or
transcript, please highlight the most important pages or time-stamp on the video so that your classmates' attention can focus on that section.
6.) This essay REQUIRES that the readings have been completed for this class. It is very obvious when someone does not deeply read the required course texts. Please
feel free to pull in other course texts (beyond Stone) if it fits your essay or response to classmates.
