To prepare:
Review the Premise Guide and the Premise Template, as well as the media entitled, Practical Skills: Adding Analysis and Synthesis. Reread your Problem Statement and gap in current research paragraphs and the justification of your dissertation topic that you have written previously. Write a completed version of your Premise, incorporating a final iteration of the paragraphs you have previously written. Also, identify a possible research approach that might be appropriate for your dissertation study based on what you studied in the last module and what you have seen used in the articles you have read and reviewed to prepare your Premise. At this point, you will identify initial considerations about your methodology by listing the kind of study you think you want to conduct on this topic: quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods. Your Premise is a 3-page document that includes a Title Page; Title, Problem Statement, Approach for the Study; and Reference List.
Put your Premise Document on the Premise Template. Following the guidelines for pages and headings provided in the Dissertation Premise Guide.
Your Premise Document should include:
• Page 1: a title page.
• Page 2: a Title for your proposed dissertation topic, the Problem Statement, and the Approach for the Study.
• Page 3: a Reference List using APA formatting.

• Justification: Include one paragraph justifying the broader educational-social problem you want to research, showing that it is meaningful to your specialization area. In the first sentence, state what the broader educational-social problem is. Then, include a minimum of one sentence from each of three articles showing what experts in your field have said about the need for research on your topic. Write a summary sentence for your paragraph synthesizing the point you made and telling why you believe this problem needs to be resolved. Provide APA citations for each article.
• Problem Statement and Gap in Current Research: Include two paragraphs presenting evidence that your dissertation topic contributes new knowledge to your field and meets a gap in current research. For the introductory sentence of the paragraph, include the gap your dissertation will address. Then, share the findings of each of five research study in one or two sentences to demonstrate what is known from current research about your topic. Provide a synthesis sentence to end your paragraph that tells what is not known about your topic that will be addressed in your dissertation. Include citations following proper APA formatting.
The Approach for the Study includes: One sentence indicating a possible research approach for your study (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods). If you have thoughts about who you might research or how you might collect your data, please include (not required).
