HBD: Synoptic; Q. Parables; gospel. John the Baptist; Peter. Kingdom of God; resurrection.
Hebrews;* James; Revelation. Read all three, write on Hebrews*.
HBD: Philo. Poor; wealth. Preaching; teaching. Apocalyptic.
What is the book about? What is interesting or significant about it? What sort of book is it? The discernment
should reflect what you discern in the text to be of central importance and interest. It should reflect engaged
and dialogic reading, attuned to the agenda discovered in the text. Listen carefully and openly. A good
discernment will reveal you to a degree, and especially the text; it will reveal the fruit of your reading carefully
this text at this time.
Do not summarize the editor's notes. (If you want to include some for convenient reference, fine, but note this.
Beware plagiarism!) Do not either simply summarize the text (not enough of your discerning analysis) or simply
offer your own opinions (not enough of listening to the text): aim for a dialogue, where you bring alive the voice
of the text. Do your own reading and analysis and tell me what you see.
