1) In an essay of 500 words or less, respond to the following question:
One of Europe’s biggest challenges today is managing the flow of immigrants and
refugees from Syria and other countries in Northern Africa and the Middle East.
Some argue that the Brexit vote was in large part a response to immigration
challenges in the United Kingdom. What do you think will be the consequences to
the rest of the European Union if the United Kingdom imposes stricter controls on
immigration? What will be the consequences to the United Kingdom?
2) In an essay of 500 words or less, respond to the following question:
Is Europe’s support of minority languages an important cultural development or a
waste of time and resources?
Okay, that’s a harshly stated question, but it belies and important reality. Something is inevitably
given up when governments commit resources to the preservation of minority languages. I want
you to think about the trade-offs. And really, there’s no uniquely correct answer. A compelling
argument can be made either way.

London. What do you think will be the impact to you once the UK has left the
European Union? How might the City of London change in the future as a result of
Brexit? How might the United Kingdom itself change in the future?
