MANAGING E-COMMERCE

  1. INFORMATION
    Working in groups or in pairs, you will be studying (sign up companies with me):
    Saudi company with e-commerce activities.
  2. Project (17%) – link to Chapter 1 and Chapters 3 (Retailing)
    This report will be examining a Saudi company about its e-commerce practices. You can choose a company that you are familiar with and like. You can gather information from their website and other documents. Some the information you might already know from your interactions with the company (e.g. Jarir sells online). All claims/assessments about the company, however, should be supported by explanations, examples and references. The rubric (further below) will be used in grading.

The report should be about 7 - 10 pages, Times New Roman font, size 12, 1.5 spacing. Please use proper referencing technique - use the APA style for your in-text references and reference list at the end of your documents. Submissions will be run against anti-plagiarism tool to detect copied materials. Therefore, please summarize points or paraphrase and make sure you reference the sources. Marks will be deducted from those who submitted reports with a lot of similarities with other work (journal article, website info, newspaper article or magazines and other people's work). Furthermore, I will deduct 0.25 points each day for late submissions.

Generally, the report should be in this order:
i) Introduction to report – 1 paragraph
ii) Introduction to industry – 1-2 paragraphs
iii) Saudi Company (big/popular company with easy access to online materials about company – websites, case studies, newspaper and magazine articles)

  • Introduction of company – 1-2 pages
    Basic info. about brand: year established, when started in Saudi, how big the company is (number of employees and/or other relevant info), Marketing Mix (4Ps), and other related info.
  • E-commerce activities of company (Chapter 1) – 3-4 pages
    – E-commerce initiatives (including online store, e-commerce classification (pure versus partial EC) and activities), social media presence/projects, other additional related e-commerce activities/information. You can use example of Starbucks case page 4 to 6 of textbook to write-up for the company.
  • Retailing in e-commerce (Chapter 3) – 2-3 pages
  • classify company’s distribution channel e-tailing business model(s) (pp. 85-86)
  • list participants in the process (pp. 897)
  • list and describe online purchasing decision aids (pp. 106-109)
  • list and describe online and offline competitors (max 2 each)
  • describe problems in e-tailing and solutions that were created
    iv) Discussion:
    • Exemplary practices
    • Negative points
    • Suggestion for the company
    v) Conclusion – 1 paragraph
