Managing an unconscious patient.

You and your partner are dispatched to a villa in Al Shamkhaf, Abu Dhabi to manage an
unconscious patient. On arrival, you find a young man lying supine (facing up) in a garden.
You notice a large abrasion on the patient’s left temple. The patient presents with shallow
breathing of a rate not more than six-breaths-per-minute. You find the patient as seen in the
picture above.
In your initial assessment you can hear a gurgling sound coming from the patient’s mouth and
a small amount of blood coming from the side of his mouth. The patient’s wife is there to answer
any questions you have about the patient. She says that she found him like this when she heard
a crash coming from the garden.
In a short essay of 500 - 600 words, answer the following questions:

  1. Provide a detailed description of your initial approach and how you would make the scene safe?
  2. Discuss how you would approach a trauma patient - Would use the rapid or focused (trauma)
history and examination for the above patient and why?
  3. Describe in detail how you would assess the above patient (your physical assessment) and
which questions you would ask the wife to obtain a comprehensive medical history of the
    patient.
