Literature Review Draft- How Xenophobia effects small groups

Description

MY TOPIC:
How Xenophobia effects small groups.

I think I would like to focus my research proposal on the topic of Xenophobia which according to Merriam Webster dictionary is, "fear and hatred of strangers or foreigners or of anything that is strange or foreign". I chose this topic because of the ongoing attacks in South Africa caused by Xenophobia. Being that my family and I originate from Nigeria this tragic events has really hit home for me and has affected a lot of people around me.

IV: Xenophobia
DP: Small groups
Theory: please select one that fits topic*

INSTRUCTIONS:

For this assignment, you will write a 3-4 page literature review. You will conduct scholarly research on your semester topic using at least 3-4 scholarly sources. I would strongly recommend utilizing more than 3 sources if you want to receive full points on this assignment. Please also see the document regarding what counts as a scholarly source. This draft of your literature will serve as a starting point for the literature review section of your full final approval due at the end of the semester.

The paper is to be typed in 12 point Times New Roman font (or Calibri 11 point), double spaced, numbered, with 1” margins, and in ASA format. Also, please include your name in the header or footer next to the page number.
Each paper needs to have the following sections:

The Topic – (1 paragraph) introduce the topic, discuss the variables and theory
o Provide a short statement of what you are studying and why. You need to identify the major
concepts and theory you are working with. This is just to prepare the instructor for what they are
about to read. The full final version of the proposal will have a longer topic section.

Literature Review (3-4 pages) – summary of relevant literature; see PowerPoint for advice on
organizational structure
o Suggested formatting and organization using gun violence and neighborhoods from a
concentrated disadvantage perspective:

-Begin by discussing relevant research on your dependent variable.
*So if you are studying the relationship between gun violence (DV) and neighborhoods (IV) using concentrated disadvantage (theory), begin with a short section on gun violence. What recent research has been conducted in this area? What did this research find?
*In all likelihood, this will be about individuals and guns, not neighborhoods. That’s fine.

-Second, devote several paragraphs to the role of your IV on your DV.
*In this case, what role do neighborhoods play in concentrations of gun violence? What have neighborhood studies of gun violence shown? What theories have been proposed and were they supported? This section will build on the previous section and build towards the third section.

-Third, specifically address your theory.
*In this hypothetical example, I would propose that concentrated disadvantage offers the clearest, best explanation of why gun violence concentrates in certain neighborhoods. Fully describe the theory, how the theory has previously been ope-rationalized, if it was successful in explaining whatever it was used for, and any recent changes in the theory.

-Fourth, I recommend including a short section where you directly apply your theory to
your primary relationship (IV effect on DV).
*Explain how the theoretical tenants of concentrated disadvantage apply to the relationship between neighborhoods and gun violence.
