Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral Development

Graham Greene’s The Power and the Glory refutes Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral Development because Kohlberg associates lower levels with younger people and higher levels with older people whereas in the novel it is the other way around.

Paper instructions:
The younger characters, in the Power and The Glory, Coral and Lewis, act on a higher moral level than the older characters.
A quote for demonstrating Coral's maturity is: “She was independent of both of them: they belonged together in her past. In forty years’ time they would be dead as last years' dog.” (38)
A quote for demonstrating that Coral operates on a Level 3 Stage 5/6: " 'Of course he's here…We couldn't let them catch him' " (38)
A quote for demonstrating Lewis's maturity “…but he knew very well that it was his duty.” (225)
A quote for demonstrating Lewis operating a a Level 3 Stage 5/6: “But the boy had already sung the door open and put his lips to his hand before the other could give himself a name” (225).
