here is a situation in the Bible where Jesus was confronted with a legal or ethical issue:

  • The woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-11)

Jesus was teaching in the temple when the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery. They demanded that Jesus condemn her to death, according to the law of Moses.

Jesus did not condemn the woman. Instead, he wrote something on the ground with his finger. When the Pharisees asked him what he had written, he said, “The one who is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone.”

The Pharisees then began to leave, one by one, starting with the oldest. When Jesus was left alone with the woman, he said to her, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and sin no more.”

In this situation, Jesus was confronted with a legal issue. The law of Moses required that adulterers be stoned to death. However, Jesus did not condemn the woman. He instead focused on the sinfulness of all people and invited her to repent.

This knowledge can assist me as I work to help others in the following ways:

  • It reminds me that everyone is a sinner and that I should not judge others.
  • It encourages me to focus on helping people rather than condemning them.
  • It shows me that it is possible to obey the law of man while also following the teachings of Jesus.

When I am confronted with a legal or ethical issue, I will try to follow the example of Jesus. I will not judge others, but I will focus on helping them. I will also try to find a way to obey the law of man while also following the teachings of Jesus.
