 In class we have reviewed various theories related to power relations. Choose one theoretical framework from class to examine how power is exercised and resisted in contemporary society. You are expected to address the following questions.
 - In what ways does this theory explain how the ‘elite’ maintain and exert power over the public?
 - How does the theory offer ways to understand how individuals and groups may overcome and change dominant power relations?

 One of the areas in political sociology that we have discussed in depth is the role of institutions (state and non-state) in establishing modern society. Choose one institution (e.g. schooling, medicine, government, etc…) that you are familiar with and examine how an
institutionalist approach would understand power relations within the institution.
 - To what extent does an institutionalist approach improve an understanding of how power is maintained in society?
 - How does your institution express power? What forms of resistance exist in response to the power exercised by the institution?
