Informative Speech Outline/Refs
Students will submit a final typed outline that is used in their speech. It's best to hold your outline in one hand to glance at in order to use hand gestures or have it in front of you to deliver an extemporaneous speech. (See all speech instructions, evaluation and checklists in the Informative Speech Topic assignment box.)
You should have "full sentences" (meaning they have a complete thought), but "Outline form" as in your outline homework! It should be typed in Times New Roman font, 12 pts, double-spaced, must have in-text citations, which are cited orally in your speech.
What are in-text citations? These are located within your outline. Read the APA quick guide.

I. Introduction:
A. Attention Getting Opener (narrative, joke, “gee whiz” numbers, build drama)
As an attention getter, I wanted to begin with something like, “get outta here Dewey, you don't want this”, but I want to go over why Dewey should not want any of ‘this’, first. I will begin by describing what the drug is. Describing what cocaine is makes the audience/listener more familiar with the content of the speech. Perhaps go over some history of the origins of cocaine._______________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
B. Why is your audience interested (can they relate to your topic)?
The audience should be very interested in cocaine. Cocaine is one of the most common drugs used in the United States. At time, students are exposed to cocaine through social events. In some of these events, refreshments are served to the public, some of these refreshments contain alcohol. Therefore, students often cross liquor and cocaine. What exactly is cocaine? Cocaine is highly illegal. People who try cocaine once, often come back to it. This speech is to inform people of what happens after they decide that they are ‘okay’ with using cocaine.

C. Thesis (a single sentence that reflects the main purpose of your speech)
“Today I will inform you about cocaine and how it affects the human bod after long term and short term use”._________________________________________________________________

D. Establish Credibility (Why are you an expert in the area you are speaking...research,
experience, career path)
This is a draft, but I will have online sources from scholar journals. I will add an experience of my own, and research, but I have yet to choose information that I am sure I will want in my speech. Of course, in order to stablish credibility, I will add to the speech, information on the effects of cocaine. ___________________________________________________________________________________
