Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Perspectives on Science and Practice

From the following questions, choose ONE of the two topics and answer it. Use appropriate references to support your argument.

  1. Changing workforce
The workforce is changing. The way we work is changing. The way we do business is changing. There are also many trends influencing organisations, such as fewer people entering workforce and the lack of qualified applicants.
Describe how the workforce is changing (you may want to elaborate on such issues as cultural diversity, flex work, and technological advancement) and identify three consequences of these changes for organisations. Use appropriate theories to support your claims.
  2. The influence of organisational structure and culture on organisational performance
Organisational structure and culture are very much intertwined. The structure works within a culture but is not completely separate. Some experts claim that "the ‘strength’ of ‘corporate culture’ is directly correlated with the level of profits in a company". An organisational structure is determined by many factors, such as the goals of the organisation, the business environment, and the type of work the organisation performs.
Examine the relationship between organisational structure and culture and discuss how they influence organisational performance. Use relevant theories to support your claims.
