Make sure your argument is based on the evidence provided in the supplied primary sources. You do not have to use every source, but use as many as possible.

Here are some questions you must argue when writing your essay:

–What were some of the major issues regarding immigration from both sides? Who supported immigration and who did not? Why?
–What were some of the arguments for promoting (or at least lessening restrictions on) immigration and wanting to restrict immigration to the US?
–What issues were affecting the US during the post WWI years that led to US immigration policies?
–How were immigrants portrayed by the differing sides on immigration issues?
–What similarities and differences do you see with modern US immigration policy?
–In your opinion, what does it mean to be “American?” Do the ideas of who is “American” and the values attached to that change over time?
