How the U.S. government can deal with the negative externalities
Analyze how the U.S. government can deal with the negative externalities caused by the production/consumption of animal based foods. (see paper requirements for further details)
As part of the requirements for this course, you must write a policy paper. This paper should be typed in 12 font, it should be 8-10 double-spaced pages in length, and it should be designed to give you some experience in analyzing an issue in how government affects the economy. Specifically, you should do the following in your paper: ? select a relevant issue of importance and of interest to you, ? review the relevant literature, ? discuss clearly the issues (e.g., how to deal with pollution), and ? draw the appropriate conclusions. Your goal should be to develop an original analysis of an issue in government and the economy, involving a review of the relevant issue and your own “conclusion” on dealing with the issue. my paper topic: Discuss the ways in which the United States is dealing with the negative externalities caused by the production (and subsequently consumption) of animal based foods (such as pollution/greenhouse gas emissions and our health epidemic), and suggest possible alternative reforms that would improve the results. (These could include taxes on meat/dairy industries to cover the negative externalities caused by the production/consumption of these goods. Our number one cause of death in the united states is heart disease and the second is cancer, which can be dramatically reduced with the avoidance of animal based foods. One possible suggestion is the already proposed “hamburger tax”)
