Part 1: • Use the information, strategies, and research tools to complete a literature search with annotated bibliography. Acquire the skill of searching a database using specific key words and limiters/expanders. Annotated bibliographies may summarize, assess or evaluate a published article. Keep this in mind as you develop your annotated bibliographies. Remember that the annotations you include in your bibliography should reflect your PICO Question: In adults who underwent major surgery, how effective is the ON-Q Pain Management in reducing the length of stay and improved patient comfort compared to IV PCA Pump in controlling acute post-operative surgical pain relief? There are studies that one can reduce the duration of the hospitalization. Which method provides more effective post-op pain relief with minimal side effects and the need for additional analgesia? Go to CINAHL, ProQuest, and EBSCOhost databases and conduct your search using the key terms you identified above. Google Scholar is also a great database. Locate 5 RESEARCH articles pertinent to the PICO question. Look for studies by nurses. Depending on the PICO questions and purpose of the bibliography, some annotations may summarize, some may assess or evaluate a source, and some may reflect on the source’s possible uses for the project at hand. Some annotations may address all three of these steps. Consider the purpose of your annotated bibliography when deciding how much information to include in your annotations (minimum of 5 Research articles, studies by nurses) Use only Nursing journals or Nursing scholarly articles that were published within 5 years. (2014-2019). This clinical issue is pertinent to my practice so I would be able to educate my surgical patients, colleagues and myself as to why ON Q pump is the preferred method for post op pain relief in our facility. Plus, indicate if the articles would support my evidence based practice. Annotated bibliography should contain between 2 - 3 succinct paragraphs (5-6 sentences each paragraph) for each of the five articles that you address. The bibliography should also be alphabetized. Do not forget, you always need scholarly resources/articles to support your discussion. Lastly, attach a reference page in proper APA 6th ed. format.
PART 2: The literature/annotated bibliography of these 5 articles is used to refer back to to get the Level of Evidence - Read the documents attached titled, “JH Rating Quality of Evidence,” “JH Research Evidence Appraisal Tool,” and “JH Non-Research Evidence Appraisal Tool.” For each article determine: a) type of study design; b) level of evidence; and c) whether or not the article is trustworthy to support the PICO question. o Research Conclusion - Based on the appraisal, provide a rationale for whether or not each article is sound evidence to support the PICO question. – These should be NO longer than 4 sentences per article **
