History of Civilization II Summer 2019

Research paper guidelines West campus
A primary, if not the primary, component of this course is your ability to read,
examine, process, and critique your assigned pages. When reading, attempt to
analyze and evaluate the material. Also, remember that societies are human
compositions and thus, fallible. The text should be examined from a well-reasoned,
college level perspective.
In addition to your reading, your written work is also vitally important. Attempt
to do more than simply regurgitate information through summary. Your writing should
demonstrate understanding and growth. This means planning ahead, proof reading
your work, emphasizing detail, and following direction.
All papers should use the Chicago Manual of Style format. If unfamiliar with this
method, refer to your college composition texts or numerous online references. Your
paper will require a 12 point, single-sided, Arial font, double-spaced, with one inch
margins. It must include a title page, end notes page, and bibliography. Three
resources minimum, two of which must be a scholarly publication (book), textbooks
excluded. With 7 pages of content, this 10 page “persuasive” paper is due no later
than Wednesday, 7/31.
You may choose from one of the following topics. Develop a thesis statements
in support or opposition. A plethora of information is available on each. One topic
doesn’t provide a greater opportunity for success than any other. Good luck!
 Was the French Revolution worth its Human cost?
 Does Napoleon deserve his reputation as a great general?
 Was China’s Boxer Rebellion caused by environmental factors?
 Did German militarism and diplomacy provoke World War I?
 Was the Treaty of Versailles responsible for World War II?
 Did the Bolshevik Revolution improve the lives of Soviet women?
 Was World War II the result of Hitler’s Master Plan?
