Hinduism and Human Rights

Write no fewer than 500 words, giving your reactions, analyses, and comments of weekly readings.
This is personal, informal writing, but you should be intellectually sharp and focused. Simple “gee whiz” or, “I
think that…” entries are unimpressive unless they demonstrate careful thinking, critical reasoning, and factual reporting. Again, this is an analysis and reflection to the Readings. IT IS NOT A SUMMARY of the readings.

Stephen Mitchell, Bhagavad Gita: A New Translation. (Harmony, 2007)
Questions: Use the below questions to help in your analysis.
Contrast the Hindu understanding of the Divine with the “personal” God of Abrahamic monotheism. What
are the similarities, and what are the differences?
Describe the role of hierarchies and social “castes” in Hinduism. Why do you think these are so important to
the Hindu religion, even to this day?
What exactly IS karma? Is it about some kind of divine law of justice, or something else, perhaps?
Compare and contrast the Hindu conception of divine reality and the Abrahamic conception of God. Are there similarities or overlaps? How do they differ?
