The NHS Infectious Disease Screening Programme in Pregnancy for England aims to offer screening for hepatitis B, HIV, and syphilis to all pregnant women early in
pregnancy in order to prevent mother-to-child transmission and to safeguard the health of women.
a) Describe and critically evaluate the Programme. Your evaluation should focus on how well the programme achieves its aims.
b) Considering HIV in particular, compare and contrast the screening programme for HIV in pregnancy with the various unlinked anonymous HIV testing programmes that
exist in England, identifying important issues and making your recommendations for the future of the unlinked anonymous programmes.
