Gender Biography Paper

Gender Biography Paper   reflect and write a 2 page double-spaced paper called your “Gender Biography.” What gender messages did you receive during your childhood from parents, friends, grandparents, teachers, school or church? What were you taught in these different settings about what it means to be a “boy” vs. a “girl” or a “male” vs. “female″ or a ″man″ vs. ″woman” or “masculine” vs. “feminine”? Did you have different toys, books, clothes, chores, or curfews from the opposite sex? Were you told that boys or girls don′t do certain types of behavior? It′s not ″ladylike″ or if boys engaged in particular behaviors they were ″acting like a girl″ or a ″sissy″? Were there certain careers or classes for each gender? Reflect on the sex role conditioning you received from your home, school, church and mass media. What types of role models did you see in the media? Who were your heroes and why? You may want to cite specific examples of how you were treated differently in a particular situation such as attempting to get your car repaired or as a teenage boy applying for a babysitting job? These are stimulus questions. You need not answer each one, but you should touch on most of the areas. What gender messages did you get from relatives, teachers, church, television and the movies? Did you accept all of these messages or not? What color was your bedroom etc.? What kind of role models were your parents? What do you remember hearing them say about how men and women should behave? The paper should be typed, double-spaced, and carefully proofread for grammar, spelling and typos.
