Functions and Graphs

Select a bridge from around the world that contains parabolic features. By importing an image of your chosen bridge into
DESMOS or other graphing program, create a 2D side-view drawing of one face of the bridge using a series of functions
you design. Use Turning Point form to model the largest spanning curve of the bridge chosen. You may not select the
Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

To complete the task you must:
respond with a range of understanding and skills, such as using mathematical language, appropriate calculations,
tables of data, graphs and diagrams.
• provide a response to the context that highlights the real-life application of mathematics.
• respond using a written report format that can be read and interpreted independently of the instrument task sheet.
• develop a unique response.
• use both analytic procedures and technology.
