Film analysis
Order Description
Part One: What are five (5) things that you have learned in this course about the style of certain directors, the techniques of filmmaking, (such as light, sound, music, casting, story structure,
visual metaphors), and/or the historical influences of certain events on the films of the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s. In other words, what are five (5) things that might affect how you watch films (new
and old) in the future?
Part Two: What film did you like most or were the most impressed with?
1.) What was the film and why do you think it made a connection with you?
2.) What are aspects of the film that you find significant or unique?
3.) Do you think this film could be made today and be successful, or is it a film that best reflects the time in which it was produced?
4.) Do you think this film has been an influence on other films? Give reasons and examples.
5.) Do you think this film will still be watched (and studied) in another hundred years? Why or why not?
Part Three: In the course the term “Death of Heroes” was used for films that reflected the downbeat mood in the 1960s and 70’s because of political assassinations, the Vietnam War, and the
Watergate Scandal involving a U. S. President. In films like Bonnie and Clyde, Easy Rider, The Wild Bunch, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and even The
Godfather (where the young Michael turns into a heartless monster), the heroes die at the end, either physically or psychologically. Today there is Afghanistan, the War on Terrorism, wide spread
unemployment, and the polarization of political parties.
1.) Do you think that some of the films today reflect the turmoil going on in the country and the world? Why or why not? Give reasons and at least five (5) examples.
2.) In the 1960’s and 70’s the heroes were usually anti-heroes with flawed personalities, such as outlaws, but they were human beings which audiences could relate to. Today the most popular genres
are superheroes and the living dead. Do you think these two genres are a sign of the times? Why or why not? Give reasons and examples.
