Fats and other lipids

Calculate your risk of having a heart attack by completing the American Heart Association Risk Calculator ( https://ccccalculator.ccctracker.com/ ). The calculator requires some health information that you may not know, in that case, you will need to estimate/guess. However, consider getting that information, if you don’t know.
Here are some typical ranges that can help you estimate/guess.
Total Cholesterol: LDL + HDL
LDL Cholesterol (bad cholesterol): Lower numbers are better.
Less than 100 mg/dL is ideal
HDL Cholesterol (good cholesterol): Higher numbers are better
Higher than 40 mg/dL is ideal
Systolic Blood Pressure (Top Number) — highest pressure when your heart pumps the blood through the artery — Typical/Good = 120 mmHg
70-90 low
90-120 ideal
120-140 pre-high
140-190 high
Diastolic Blood Pressure (Bottom Number) — lowest pressure in the artery when the heart has relaxed — Typical/Good = 80 mmHg
40-60 low
60-80 ideal
80-90 pre-high
90-100 high
Post Part 2 Prompt

Did the results surprise you (you don’t have to tell the class the specific results)? Why or why not? Discuss ways you think your diet can be modified to reduce the risk of heart attack and/or discuss ways your diet already reduces risk of heart attack. (The American Heart Association Website has lots of information.)
