F – Oroonoko
Respond to ONE of the following prompts in a post of 100-200 words before class period on Wednesday. We
will discuss these in class on Wednesday.
- Pick one of the conventions that Ian Watt discussed are part of the new kind of writing (the novel) and
discuss how Oroonoko does/does not adhere to it. Be sure to point to specific examples in the novel. - How does the narrator and the role of the narrator change from the first part of the novel to the second part
of the novel? - How does the narrative style change from the first part of the novel to the second part of the novel?
- The narrator seems to shift back and forth from supporting Oroonoko’s slave rebellion to supporting
colonialism. Point out some example of this. Why do you think this is happening?
