Step 1: Open the IB ESS Internal Assessment (IA) Guideline Rubric listed in the attachments. Thoroughly skim
through this to grasp what you will be doing.

Here you will find a list of topics and subtopics. Consider all of them but you will end up choosing one for the
paper. I would advise you to choose something you know about or have more connection to. Below that you
will find questions and examples that you will need to get started on the paper. You don’t need to complete it
perfectly but without it, the essay won’t have the structure that it needs so I strongly advise you use it. Plus I
think this is a super helpful planning sheet.
Step 3: Open the ESS IA Sample A pdf where you will find a student example of the IA. Pay close attention to
the structure and format. She includes a few original charts of data she collects and uses sources and analysis
and stuff like that. Keep this students work at reference.
Step 4: Open the ESS IA Sample A moderation comments pdf where you will find a teacher grading
assessment on the previous students work based on the criteria. This will help you know what to do and what
not to do.
