Ellen White, Testimonies For the Church,

Order DescriptionA. In 1904 Ellen White penned down the following vision. “On one occasion, when in New York City, I was in the night season called upon to behold building raising story after story towards heaven. These buildings were warranted to be fireproof, and they were erected to glorify their owners and builders. . . . The scene that next passed before me was an alarm of fire. Men looked at the lofty and the supposedly fire-proof buildings and said: “They are perfectly safe.” But these buildings were consumed as if made of pitch. The fire engines could do nothing to stay the destruction. The firemen were unable to operate the engines.” (Ellen White, Testimonies For the Church, Volume 9, 12-13; Lt 93, 1904 Ellen White to Elders Daniells, Prescott and Dr Hare.) Some applied this graphic vision to the destruction of the World Trade Center during the tragic events on September 11, 2001. Using the principles of sound hermeneutics, explain the contextual meaning of Ellen White’s vision and discuss its application for spiritual life in the 21st century? (600 words)
