You will research and read articles and books on one of the following populations: Choose one of these
groups: victims/survivors, batters, children, elders.
For this paper I want to focus on the victim/survivor
Explore these questions:
-What is the impact of abuse to people in this group or the group you selected?
-What is the research saying about this group/population?
-What is the impact of abuse to the family and to the community in general?
-Is there any impact on the health or mental health of people impacted by domestic violence?
-Are there theories that you or we can use as a framework of understanding violence from this population?
Additional Explanations are in the four points below, you will need to:
-Research three different theories of why domestic violence happens
-Apply one of the theories you researched to your population and explain why you selected the theory to
explain domestic violence.
-Explain what you as a clinician would do to advocate and empower the victim/survivor, the abuser, people in
the population you selected.
-How will you respect client-self-determination while you are working with them?
