3. As Uta Hagen puts it in “Respect for Acting” her seminal text on acting, the theatre always involves some kind of “revolt”. That is, the theatre aims to change society. This chapter suggests ways in which the theatre is a tool of social, historic, economic and religious information or even propaganda. The theatre’s roots are the roots of all performance media. What has the the theatre done for us lately? Discuss the roll of the theatrcial in our social and political lives. That is, how have we been or how are we changed by the theatre, the tv, the cinema, the internet, etc? Think about grass-roots political organizations, social media biases, etc.
