Disability in a movie
Description
For this assignment you will have an opportunity to read a novel, or watch a TV show or movie that portrays an individual with a disability, and through the lens of this class, review how that person, and the people around them are portrayed.
Consider Topics that we Discussed in Class:
- Person First Language (Usage in the Movie, TV Show, Book)
- Examples of Ableism (Storyline, Character (s), Message, Scene, etc)
- Inspiration Porn (Storyline, Character (s), Message, Scene, etc)
- Medical Model of Disability vs. Social Construct of Disability
- Types of Disabilities (Note Behaviors/Challenges/Symptoms)
- Able-Bodied Actor or Person With Disabilities?
Is the portrayal realistic? Was pity used at all to make you relate to any of the characters? How do you think this novel/TV show/movie increases or decreases ableism in society? How would you change this novel/TV show/movie or what do you think should not be changed at all?
This must a comprehensive paper telling me all about the characters (since I may or may not be familiar with the subject) and about how they are portrayed. Use plenty of examples in your paper, but this is not intended to be a play-by-play review of what happened in the show or movie.
