  1. Select three different jobs and two different cities.
  2. Go to www.salary.com and search for the jobs and the cities you selected.

  3. Create a Table and for each job and report the 25th percentile, median, and 75th percentile base wage
    in the two cities selected. Additionally in the Table report the total compensation including benefits for
    the two cities selected. The two cities are required to be the same for all three jobs.

  4. Is the salary for each job what you would have expected? Why or why not? What factors could
    explain the differences in the salaries?
  5. For each job, compare the median salary to the 25th and 75th percentiles. How much variation exists?
    What factors might explain this variation in pay rates for the same job?
  6. For each job compare the median base wage with the total compensation including benefits. Comment
    on the value of the benefits and why benefits are important when considering total compensation.
  7. What factors may contribute to differences in pay between cities?
  8. As a manager, how would you use all of the salary information collected for this project to make a
    determination of how much to pay employees in these jobs?
  9. The salary information collected for this project helps with external equity, how would you also
    ensure internal equity when determining employees’ compensation?
