We hear the term “diet” being used in many different ways in our everyday culture. The biological definition is different from the common social definition and effects our overall health. Diet and environmental issues plays into the heath issues not just here in the United States, but on a global level as well. The rate of deaths from noncommunicable causes, such as heart disease, stroke, and injuries, is growing on the global stage. However, the number of deaths from infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis, malaria, and diseases for which there are vaccines, is decreasing.
Part A: Give a brief description of your typical daily diet. How does your diet stack up against the current recommendations for healthy eating (total calories, % calories from fat, servings of fruits & vegetables, vitamins & minerals, etc.)? Are the recommendations appropriate for your lifestyle and level of activity? What foods would you like to add or increase in your diet to improve your nutrition? Why did you choose those foods?
