Look at Diego Velàzquez’s Las Meninas, 1.10.11a. Who is this painting about (who is the “star of the show”)? Your book discusses the complexities and eye-lines in this work, but there are arguably three possible focal points (the Infanta Margarita, her parents, the man in the doorway, or Velàzquez, himself). Whom do you think this painting is really about? Think hard about this before you write, and argue for your chosen focal point.
