Film can be analyzed by researchers as a cultural tool to understand the child and disability further, producing
insights into a changing world. Film is a tool to analyze text where social, economic, political views demonstrate
cultural beliefs and ideas. The social construction of a child and disability may not always be obvious, remember
key concepts (social construction, special, normal, dominant voice, paternalism, and other) from multiple readings.
From the list of films provided write a five – seven (5-7) page analysis of the film. Some questions to
focus on are the following:

  1. Who is narrating the film?
  2. How is the child socially constructed in the film?
  3. In what ways does the film discuss normal and different?
  4. What Cultural beliefs and ideas are displayed regarding disability?
  5. What Model of Disability is displayed in the film?
  6. Were there examples of Ableism in the film? If so, provide examples
  7. Were there actual disabled actors/actresses in the film?
