Crystal Structures
- Produce hand drawings of BOTH hard sphere and reduced-sphere representations of a single
unit cell of BCC, FCC, and HCP crystal structures. Do your best to maintain accurate and
consistent scale while producing your drawings. Place these hand drawings in your laboratory
notebook. - Produce hard sphere 3D models of a single unit cell of BCC, FCC, and HCP crystal structures
in SOLIDWORKS. For all models, use spheres that are 1 inch in diameter to represent the atoms.
Make sure to keep only the volume of atoms that fall inside the unit cell. Print screen shots of an
isometric view of your solid model and paste them into your laboratory notebook. - Use the Mass Properties tool in SOLIDWORKS to verify the APF of the BCC, FCC, and HCP
crystal structures. Print a screen shot of the Mass Properties output window (which will contain
the volume in in^3) for each and paste them into your laboratory notebook
