crime and communities

develop a short narrative outlining the plan conducting the observation using the text schutt investigating the social world. to address the question/topic within your narrative think of the behavior for example, you could compare policing presence between a high crime area of Boston and a non-high crime area of Boston. Asking the question: is there a greater, visible police presence in (for example) Mattapan Station as compared to Savin Hill• Determine which locations would yield the best results. Do you need to evaluate several different places? What are your selection criteria for locations? How much time will you devote to each location? For example, the stations above were chosen based on Boston Police Crime Data showing that Mattapan (as a neighborhood) had the highest crime rate of all Boston neighborhoods in 2014, where as Dorchester had expressed the third lowest crime rate. Based on problem oriented policing tactics, a greater number of law enforcement assets can be expected in Mattapan than in Dorchester• Plan what you will do. Set goals for work to be done. What tasks need to be done initially? How will you insert into the area – i.e. get there and get out? How will you keep notes? Will you take pictures? How will you take notes? If possible, walk thru your planned observational areas and identify vantage points, etc. My research is based on crime and communities , how effective community policing is together with the broken window theories. my plan would be to visit two train stations and which are high crime areas to see how effective policing in that area is and observe what kind of behavior there is e.g. if there is hostility etc.
