Creative & Professional writing.
Write an original humorous piece of not more than 1500 words. This can take any written form: prose (fact or fiction), poetry, drama, screenplay,
sketch, stand-up monologue script etc.
Critical Task 2
• Write an account of the creative decisions made in task B. This should not exceed 1500 words. You should reflect on and explain your authorial
choices, intentions, and make an effort to demonstrate that you have some understanding of how humour works.
General Points
Throughout the module we’ve been discussing the techniques writers use to create comedy/humour, and in your creative work you will have
employed some of these. Your critical/analytic piece should explain them, and how they function in your writing. This will mean that you will need to
draw on the theories of humour, and utilise the critical vocabulary we’ve employed this semester – in so doing please make some specific
references to the course book (The Philosophy of Humour): NB you will need to demonstrate that you have read this and attempted to make the
ideas relevant to your writing. Remember that your critical piece will give you the opportunity to explain why you feel your writing is humorous, so
don’t worry that other people may not share your sense of humour.
