In contemporary Great Britain there exist many types of service users who use health and social care services. As a health and social care service worker, you will

work in a multidisciplinary team (MDT). There are often issues in the news that are related to health and social care. Therefore as a service worker it is very

important that you have a good grasp of contemporary issues of concern in health and social area and how they are developed and how public perspective subsequently

influence the development of health and social care.
Task 1 – Learning outcome 1 (1000 words) : Understand how information relating to health and social care gives rise to issue of concern to the public

Case Scenario:
You are a social worker for the local council in East London. Recently there has been a lot of coverage in the news media about patient safety. As a result your line

manager has asked you to provide an information packet for the different service provider in your area. This will help further enable managers and care providers

understand how information relating to health and social care gives rise to issues of concern to the public. In your information pack you should (1.1) explain how

information relating to health and social care reaches the public domain. The next section of the information pack you should (1.2) analyse different techniques for

disseminating information relating to health and social care. Finally, in the information pack you should (1.3) evaluate how the different ways in which information

relating to health and social care is presented can influence the attitudes, thoughts and behaviour of people.
Task 2 – Learning outcome 2 (1000 words) : Understand how issues of public concern related to health and social care are presented in the media.
2.1 explain ways in which the media may be used to influence the attitudes and behaviour of people in relation to health and social care issues.
2.2 evaluate how the public can assess the reliability and validity of media information about health and social care .

issue have changed over time.
• Complex information/data has been synthesised and processed when assessing the relevance of the findings to health and social care issue have changed over time.

Case Scenario:
Over the past 5 years, The Guardian and Times newspaper, and also reports from BBC news have highlighted a series of serious issues in health and social care. These

report from the various media sources, have created moral panic in the minds of service users and their families and the general public as well. You are due to attend

the regional Health and Social Care conference in London in November 2014. One of the topics to be discussed at the conference will be how issues of public concern

related to health and social care are presented in the media. Your manager has asked you to write a report for the meeting so that all the delegates who will attend

the meeting have a record of the most important points that you will discuss. In your report you must explain (2.1) by using an example a case found in the media that

have created moral panic. Explain how the media was used to influence the attitudes and behaviour of people in the case in relation to health and social care issues.

In the second section of your report you must use examples to evaluate (2.2) how the public can assess the reliability and validity of media information about health

and social care.
Task 3 : Learning outcome 3 ( 750 words ) : Understand the likely influence contemporary perspectives on health and social care issues have on the development of

services .
4.1 analyse the extent to which local attitudes reflect those found at a national level.
4.2 evaluate the validity of public attitudes and behaviours in relation to a specific issue.
4.3 justify possible consequences of contemporary thinking for health and social care provisions and services .

Health and Social Care in the Community is one of the premier journals in health and social care. As a second year student you have been invited to write a short

article for the journal which will enable the readers to understand the likely influence contemporary perspectives on health and social care issues have on the

development of services made available to services users. For this task that will form the basis of your journal report you are to pick a contemporary issue and (4.1)

analyse the extent to which local attitude reflect those found at a national level. The second part of your journal report article you are to (4.2) evaluate the

validity of public attitudes and behaviours in relation to a specific issue. Finally in your report you must (4.3) justify the possible consequence of your

contemporary thinking for health and social care provisions and services
