Goal: show four significant connections between two selections we have read
thus far:
 Literature by Tupac
 “Salvation” by Langston Hughes
 “Girl,” by Jamaica Kincaid
 “Hills Like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemmingway,
 “Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin,
 “ Sweat” by Zora Neale Hurston,
 “Brownies” by ZZ Packer, and finally
 “The Lesson” by Toni Cade Bambara
You will make four major points, showing four connections between your two
selections, which will translate into four body paragraphs (see “tentative outline”
handout).
To support your major connections, you will provide evidence. Thus, you must directly
quote from each selection your evidence for each of your connections; thus each of your
four body paragraphs will include two direct quotes, one from each selection. So that
you will have a total of eight direct quotes, two for each of your four body paragraphs.
