Go to Thomas, the Library of Congress’ website for congressional research: https://thomas.loc.gov/. The current Congress (the 113th Congress) has a House of Representatives with a Republican majority, a Senate with a Democratic majority. This creates a lot of disagreement between the two chambers which, frankly, is exactly what the founders intended when they created a bicameral legislature.

Find S. 150, a bill filed by Dianne Feinstein, a Democratic senator from California. If you did it right, you should be looking at "a bill to stop the sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition feeding devices."

Write an essay about this bill. Make sure your essay includes the following information.

What would the law proposed by this bill do? What problem is it trying to solve?

To what committee or committees was it referred?
Who seems to be for this? Who seems to be against it?
Look at the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. What does it say about the right of U.S. citizens to "keep and bear arms?" How do you think that right should be interpreted? Should there be any limits?
What do you think about it? If you were a Congressman or Senator, how would you vote?
