Describe a clinical situation where you were concerned (e.g., a higher incidence of falls, infections, errors, etc.) and where decisions were made to improve the situation. What sources of evidence were utilized to make the decision (e.g., personal experience, expert advice, etc.)? Looking forward to our first discussion together!

In our discussions this week we will be identifying clinical situations that made us stop and wonder: Why did that happen? How do we fix it? Where do we start? In those situations we see the immediate action taken to address the concern. Ask yourself this: How did this system of response or decision made to improve the situation come to be?

The course outcomes for this week are:

Assess the impact of evidence-based practice on standards of care.

Discuss nursing research and its evolution.

Value one’s own role in research as a professional nurse

Discuss the levels of research evidence available to nurses for practice.

Identify sources of evidence that are available to guide clinical decision making.
