Look at the full title of the “Captivity Narrative.” (You’ll find it in the footnote on page 269) In it Rowlandson says it was written “by her own hand for her private use.” What purpose did writing her story have for her? What did she get out of putting it down on paper? Think of what we know about her religion. Perhaps use Harpham’s insights about religious autobiography in answering this question.
