This assessment consists of two parts; A written coursework assignment outlined below and an end of the term time-constrained examination.
All four tasks need to be completed independently and presented with Harvard style citation and referencing. Your coursework will be checked for plagiarism and therefore a TURNITIN report will be required.
End of Term Examination: A two-hour time-constrained exam (short answers questions based on the same assessment criteria as the coursework) on the four assessment areas.

INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND NOTES
This written coursework assignment requires you to select and research the nature and operations of a UK business organisation (either listed or public sector) in order to apply the theories and concepts while carrying out the tasks given below. You may also choose the organisation in which you are currently employed (subject to approval by the tutor) to carry out this coursework. A one page summary of the chosen organisation should be presented as an introduction.
You will be required to demonstrate that you have a good knowledge and understanding of organisational purpose and goals, nature of the national and market environment in which the organisation operates, and the external factors that affect the operation of the organisation.
WHAT YOU MUST DO:
You are required to fulfill the following four tasks in essay format. The questions in these tasks are all based on the case study Jamie Oliver and on your role as the Manager. Each answer must address the question, and provide an analysis supported by theory.
The following tasks are required to be carried out:
Task 1 (LO1):
(i) Identify the purposes of different types of organisations and compare the missions, goals and the strategic objectives of your chosen organisation with a similar organisation.
(ii) Describe the extent to which your organisation meets the objectives of its different stakeholders. Explain the responsibilities of your organisation and the strategies it uses to meet the needs of these different stakeholders.
Task 2 (LO2):
(i) Explain the nature of UK economic system and how it affects your organisation.
(ii) Assess the impact of fiscal and monetary policy on businesses and activities such as your chosen organisation.
(iii) Evaluate the impact of competition policy and other regulatory mechanisms in the UK on the activities of your organisation.
Task 3 (LO3):
(i) Using your chosen company as an example, explain how market structure determines the pricing and production decisions.
(ii) Using a range of examples, analyse how market forces influence the organisational response and examine how your organisation would respond.
(iii) Discuss the business and cultural environment of your selected organisation and assess to what extent it shapes the behaviour of the organisation.
Task 4 (LO4):
(i) Discuss the significance of international trade on UK business organisations and use examples from your chosen organisation.
(ii) Analyse the impact of global factors on UK business organisations and use examples from your chosen organisation.
(iii) Assess the role and impact of the European Union policies on the UK business organisations and use examples from your chosen organisation.

2.1 explain how economic systems attempt to allocate resources

2.3 evaluate the impact of competition policy and other regulatory mechanisms on the activities of a selected organisation

Glossary:
Analyse: Break an issue or topic into smaller parts by looking in depth at each part. Support each part with arguments and evidence for and against (Pros and cons)
Critically Evaluate/Analyse: When you critically evaluate you look at the arguments for and against an issue. You look at the strengths and weaknesses of the arguments. This could be from an article you read in a journal or from a text book.
Discuss: When you discuss you look at both sides of a discussion. You look at both sides of the arguments. Then you look at the reason why it’s important (for) then you look at the reason why it’s important (against).
Explain: When you explain you must say why it is important or not important.
Evaluate: When you evaluate you look at the arguments for and against an issue. Identify: When you identify you look at the most important points.?Guide to student

1. Preparation guidelines of the Coursework Document:
a. All coursework must be word processed.?b. Document margins must not be more than 2.54 cm (1 inch) or less than 1.9cm (3/4 inch).?c. Font size must be within the range of 12 point in body text and heading 14 point?d. Standard and commonly used type face such as Times new Roman or Arial etc should be used. e. 2. Plagiarism
Any act of plagiarism will be seriously dealt with according to the regulations. In this context the definition and scope of plagiarism are presented below:
Plagiarism is presenting somebody else’s work as your own. It includes copying information directly from the Web or books without referencing the material; submitting joint coursework as an individual effort; copying another student’s coursework; stealing coursework from another student and submitting it as your own work. Suspected plagiarism will be investigated and if found to have occurred will be dealt with according to the college procedure (For details on Plagiarism please see the Student Handbook).
3. Submission
a. All coursework must be submitted on the VLE (TURNITIN) along with a cover page.?b. Any computer files generated such as program code (software), graphic files that form part of the coursework must be submitted on the VLE.?c. The student must attach a copy of the question in between the cover page and the answer.
4. Good practice:
a. Make backup of your work in different media (hard disk, floppy disk, memory stick, e-mail etc.) to avoid distress for loss or damage of your original copy.
b. Make an extra hardcopy of your work submitted for your own reference or later use
5. Extension & Late Submission
If you need an extension for a valid reason, you must request one using a Coursework Extension Request Form available from the College and submit to the Programme Manager. Please note that the lecturers do not have the authority to extend the coursework deadlines and therefore do not ask them to award a coursework extension.
The completed extension form must be accompanied by evidence such as a medical certificate in the event of you being sick. Late submissions with mitigating evidence will be accepted and marked according to the College procedure. Please note that late submissions may result in lower grades or rejections.
