Teen films explore the difficulties of growing up and the transition from childhood to adulthood. Breakfast Club follows 5 high school students as they endure a Saturday detention at school. They begin the film as stereotypes: the brain, the athlete. the princess, the basket case, and the criminal. However, we learn to view them differently by the end. What changes in our view of them and what do you think is the message that we might learn from this new understanding?
Directions: Identify each character and how our understanding of them changes. We learn something from changing our views of the characters. How might that lesson be applied in our own lives? Identify the overall “message” from what we learn about how we look at (and treat) people from other groups. Use examples from the movie to make your point.
