Blood Glucose test

A 90-year-old White male is told by his physician that he needs B12 shots every two weeks for a period of six weeks. In addition, he is to check his glucose by sticking his finger daily before or after breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The physician then says that she wants to see him for a return visit in six weeks. After the physician leaves, you ask the patient if he understands the instructions and he says yes. You ask him to repeat the instructions and he tells you he must have B12 shots three times per day, and check his blood glucose once per day before or after a meal. He must return for a visit in six weeks. 1. As a nurse what would you do? 2. Do you assume that this patient has cognitive problems and cannot care for himself?
